Among the best of the best! Love these novels! Very well written, interesting, lots of action, a wonderful, charismatic hero, great secondary characters. My only objection is that I finish these books in two days--way too fast. Luckily there are several more of these Sebastian St. Cyr novels. Every bit as interesting as the Quirke novels of John Banfield.. When will I stop reading the series? This second in the series of Sebastian St. Cyr tales was much better than the first. I expect the third to be better still. I think Ms Harris is becoming more comfortable with her character, setting, and language. It is pleasing to see stories written around every day occurrences that can capture one's interest. If the author is good at her job, there is no need for exaggerated story plots as one sees from time to time wi

The author deftly combines political intrigue, cleverly concealed clues and vivid characters for a fast-moving story that will have readers eagerly anticipating future volumes in the series. The young wife of an aging marquis is found murdered in the arms of the Prince Regent. Now Sebastian is lured into a dangerous investigation of the marchioness's death-and his mother's uncertain fate. Around her neck lies a necklace said to have been worn by Druid priestesses-that is, until it was lost at sea with its last owner, Sebastian St. Cyr's mother. As he edges closer to the truth-and one murder follows another-he confronts a conspiracy that imperils those nearest him and threatens to bring down the monarchy.
