I'm not sure what to make of this book. I'm not sure what to make of this book. On one hand, there are some really interesting characters and heartfelt scenes that present their relationship. The graphics really emphasize the emotions in interactions between Alison Bechdel and her father. Although Bechdel does repeat sections of her past, she builds on them each time with expanded visual elements to provide new perspectives on ideas presented only briefly earlier on in the book. Those are the strengths of the book. On the other hand, Bechdel . Interesting Story. Lacked Empathy. Bliss Pierce It's a difficult thing to write in criticism of someone who is dead. Though it may not have been the author's intent, their judgement of the father seemed harsh and incomplete -- based on hearsay and speculation as opposed to any real understanding of his story, which she does admit to in part. It was an awkward read, which isn't always bad. I appreciated the struggle.. Two Stars John C. O'Brien characters develop very slowly or not at all, little story or plot. barely remember it.
