"Lively and Imaginative" according to Ken. The author of "The Supreme Moment" has a wonderful imagination and it shows in this book. There are some problems, but mostly it's in the writing and editing. The writing itself is fairly literate, but the constant mis-use of the word "like" instead of the more correct "as if" or "as though," and the occasional "worse" instead of "worst" can be distracting, although readers of Young Adult Fiction may not be bothered by it. This is an ARC review.The Supreme Moment is full of a lot of fascinating ideas and is definitely a book driven by characterization, the plot centering on how the main character Avery deals with the awful situations that are forced on her, first when a crime boss demands her little sister as payment for her out-of-the-picture dad's delinquent debts then when she decides to willingly give herself to Darrien/Kairos to save them all when he unexpectedly shows up during the standoff.Darrien is an intr. "Entertaining, but extremely racy for a YA, at least at first." according to Trish (I read too much!). The Supreme Moment is about a young girl named Avery who is faced with an impossible choice. She chooses the lesser of two evils and allows herself to be claimed by a mysterious crime lord in exchange for the safety and protection of her mother and sister. Darrien Stathos is a frightening man, pale, with mismatched, disturbing eyes, and he's had both of them on Avery for quite some time.At first the story seems paranormal romance (almost erotica, definitely for the 18 and up crowd).
