DESCRIPTION:
Their epic love story stands at the center of a religious tradition that shaped the world. 1 Samuel 18:1 & 3: "And it came to pass that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. They were star-crossed warrior lovers whose passionate affair changed history and gave rise to the nation of Israel, a legacy that has endured for 3,000 years. Who were they beyond the historical facts given in the Bible? What were they like-as men? This modern-day novel tells the story of Israel's first king and the man who captured his heart.. But Jonathan and David were also two men torn between duty and tradition, driven by their undeniably passionate and physical love for one another. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul." David not only slew Goliath, he won the heart of Prince Jonathan, heir to the throne of Israel
An amazing retelling of the story of David. Eric Shaw Quinn has outdone himself with The Prince's Psalm. The background of the Book of Samuel shows extensive research and attention to detail, and really serves to bring the sometimes ambiguous passages of the Bible to life. Quinn's personifications of Samuel, Saul, Jesse, and the entire Benjamin Clan, and especially David and Jonathan are demystified and realistic. This book is one of the best dramatizations of a Bible story that I have ever read. If you enjoyed Anne Rice's Out of Egypt and The Road to Cana, you will certainly enjoy The Prince's Psalm.. A grand historical romance This telling of the great Biblical love story between David and Jonathan was a masterfully wrought pairing of old testament scripture and sensitive exegesis. The author has reclaimed the grand romance between these two great men and placed into its proper, well-researched, historical and cultural context. This book is an excellent read for anyoneeven all those closeted, self-hating fundamentalists. BUY THIS BOOK!. Don Baker said Well-written interpretation, well worth reading. Unlike some other reviewers, I actually read this book. If you are determined to believe that the covenant between David and Jonathan was merely to be BFFs or blood brothers, this is not the book for you. However, if you are open to a well-written and researched historical novel that closely follows the Book of Samuel but fleshes out the characters, makes them human, and goes behind the motivations of David, Jonathan, Saul, and Michal, then I highly recommend it. Oh, and the sex episodes--David and Jonathan, Jonathan and his wife, David and his--are handled with restraint and sensitivity. I enjoyed the read ve
