Along the way, she and Aldrin — the rather simple and OH GODS KEEP HIM AWAY FROM ANYTHING SHARP prince — find themselves at the mercy of assassins, witches, traveling historians, a sect of killer doctors, and the unblinkers. Can two teens survive an entire Empire crashing down upon them while a shambling army of corpses waits patiently in the shadows? Will the religious fight for and against magic rip apart the world they all became rather fond of? And just how can a fifteen year old take over a throne dangling precariously over the edge of war?. Save the Prince, save the world. Or so say the old prophesies cobbled together from wandering soothsayers, women huffing broken gas lines, and the back of comic tomes. Maybe stop for coffee.Magic is coming back. The fight was going well for them, all things considered, right until their King went and let his head slip right off his shoulders. Now Ciara, a black servant into her sixteenth year, finds herself on a mad quest across the countryside trying to get the second son and possibly only hope of the severed Ostero line back onto his throne. A very pleasant surprise Adam Chmelka The fantasy genre has its share of tropes, and a lot of authors are content to grab a handful of them, staple them together, and call it a book. Fortunately, Zbasnik is not one of those authors. "The King's Blood" consistently sidesteps, inverts, or outright mocks fantasy cliches, sometimes all at the same time. This not only makes the book quite funny in places, but also makes the twists and turns of the plot harder to anticipate-- whenever you think the story is heading down a predictable path, it more often than not is about to pull the rug out from under you.Th. A great read! I love this book! I love the writing style of S.E. Zbasnik. Her writing really made me feel like I was living in a time where there was magic and soothsayers. As I read the book, I imagined that I was Ciara and what it would be like to be a teenager at a time like this. I absolutely love the character of Ciara. The flow of the book was great. I never got bored. I was always on the edge of my seat, waiting for whatever came next. As well as being quite dramatic, the book was also fun to read. Who doesn't love a good adventure?!?The book was well-written, intriguing a. A good read. I enjoyed the two main characters A good read. I enjoyed the two main characters. They made a nice contrast to each other and still had a very strong connection. My only issue was zombies. I don't like zombies, they just aren't my thing. I read really quick through those parts. But all in all a good story and well executed.
