Their adventure riding bikes for hours on empty roads through wide open spaces shows how shared experiences can change lives. Crossing America at 15 miles per hour while stopping in every small town in their path, Frank and Helen saw a very different country than one they have experienced driving at 70 mile per hour on the interstate highway. Along the way, a cowboy, state troopers, EMTs, preachers, a bike racer, an Emmy winner, and a lot of friendly people crossed their path. This is an account of a couple married 35 years working together as a team to accomplish a shared goal. Of course, dogs often came to greet the bike riders pedaling past. It is the authors hope that this book will inspire others to step out of their comfort zone and risk taking the long way home.. They met people they would have never seen whizzing across America in a car. This book tells the story of a retired couple taking the long way home from San Diego, California to Melbourne Beach, Florida. It is a tale of adventure, teamwork, and faith; a story of how two retirees went outside their comfort zone putting themselves in positions where they had to rely on strangers that just seemed to pop-up at the right time

"Even you can do it!" according to Blaine Keller. Very entertaining and enjoyable. Interesting details about the places and people along the way. Interesting assists and unexpected changes to their plans. Even made me believe I could do it since his wife wasn't a cyclist and hadn't been able to train due to an injury. Quick easy read.. Interesting Trip - Immature Religiousity David W. Jones Decent account of a loooong bike journey. Author has a nice self deprecating sense of humor. His spouse seemed like a determined personality you would appreciate as a biking companion. Their negotiation of biking issues such as evaluating distances and terrain and weather gives you valuable information if you are contemplating such a trip. For more in-depth details, you would choose from many other biking books, of course. I give this couple high praise and admi. Good adventure, but. Way to much religious nonsense for me. I did finish the book by would not recommend it. Admirable trip but too many distractions
