But it IS nice to have the words of the tune written above Definitely written for someone who does not read, and does not want to read, music. No staff, no notes, no measure breaks, no key signatures. If you don't know the tune, you would not know the rhythm. But it IS nice to have the words of the tune written above the tablature.. Astara said Good for beginners. I have recently taught myself how to play the mountain dulcimer. I ordered a couple of books to facilitate my learning. This book is easy to understand and is good for a rank beginner. I already play a number of other instruments so had no problem with the dulcimer, but the book did help me learn the basics.. Very, very good for a beginner! Patricia Childs This book has songs for both tunings, and the tablature is very easy to follow. It's good if you're just starting out because you can learn the melodies and embellish them as you like.
