DESCRIPTION:

. Each animal is boldly displayed, usually one per page, and is identified by a single large-print word. Toddlers, whose habits are best suited to this indestructible format, may be confused by the lack of distinct details in the illustrations. Thus, the illustrations will serve only to frustrate the very young.- Cathleen Towey, Nassau Library System, Uniondale, NYCopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc. The illustrations make satisfying use of unusual color combinations such as buff, black, and green. Some animals are clearly recognizable--the frog and pig--but others are oversimplified: a fox looks like a dog; a worm looks like a snake; and the ant looks like a spider. From School Library Journal PreSchool-- Four board books illustrated in a stylized, childlike fashion with a poster-paint look. Unfortunately, the art is not realistic enough to make all the creatures identifiable to the intended audience

This playful new edition of PET ANIMALS invites little ones to explore with their hands as well as their eyes. A sturdy animal board book from the best-selling creator of Maisy—-now with an irresistibly touchable cover. In this enticing board book, Maisy creator Lucy Cousins introduces very young children to the variety of the animal world with her eye-catching chunky shapes, bold lines, and crayon-bright colors. Now on each book’s cover there’s a touch-and-feel feature: the soft fur of a mouse.

A Favorite Book Peggy Roberts My one year old loves this book series- we have all of them and she will sit down with it and read through it on her own. Interesting selection of both familiar and unfamiliar animals. One of the first books we starting reading to her- she loves it!. Great for small babies! A Customer This book RIVETED my 3-month-old baby. We'd prop the book open to give him tummy time, and he'd stare at each page for minutes on end. When he got a little older, we'd make the sounds for each animal. This book includes a nice selection of pets: mouse, guinea pig, cat, rabbit, two kinds of dogs, lizard, parrot, fish, hampster, and canary. I recommend getting the whole set of four in this series: Country Animals, Farm Animals, Pet Animals, and Garden Animals.. "The book is misleading. On the cover is a fuzzy, soft-to-the-touch mouse, yet the pages contain no texture" according to Michael G.. We rented this book at the library and were excited to read it with our small son while teaching him about textures and words. We were disappointed when we arrived home to find the book had no textures inside and instead used a furry mouse on the cover as a rather brash marketing tactic. Anything to save a few pennies, I guess. Still, it's sad to see this sort of behavior with books for small children.
