Another great Holmes and Russell novel videobear Another great Holmes and Russell novel. I even prefer King's Holmes to the Conan Doyle original. However, I felt that this one was not King's best, even though we did get to meet Dashiell Hammett. Perhaps it is because Russell herself is laboring under great mental stress and is not her usual. Great read! Gin I love Laurie King's books! The reader see's a different Mary Russell. She is not the confident and self assured woman as she is in previous books. The more closer she gets to the truth of the death of her family the more vulnerable she becomes. The mystery is complex and not easy to figure o. TW said Mystery wrapped in an enigma. Most of the violence is "off screen" and the sexual content is more an acknowledgment that people, in fact, do engage in sexual activity and might even enjoy it. I enjoy all of the Mary Russell series.
