Thank you Finally, a horse opera by a horseman. Thank you, Mr. Wright, for understanding that horses cannot run for hours (aka Lonesome Dove), that they do not nicker as if their character is speaking (aka Game of Thrones), that you do not spur your mare before you ask nicely (aka Jeff Cameron). Thank you for reminding us that these fine animals were crucial to this nation's history and should be welcome on open space accordingly and not treated like the invaders environmentalists would have us . S. Sykes said A true slice of the American West. I live in the part of the country where this wonderful western novel is set and all I can say is that Wright nailed both the time and the place. I will be watching for more from this author. There is a level of authenticity about this book that kicks it a notch above most western novels. Wright knows his stuff.. "loved it!" according to Linda Lawler. I concur with all the other comments. We met at Zumas, where I say the grulla on the cover. I have ridden quite a bit of the territory near Pagosa, and I live in Durango. Of course, Taos, Santa Fe and Alb. are regular "stompin" ground. The endurance of the horses is incredible; I can only imagine a ride in winter from Pagosa to north valley here in Durango. My compliments to the thread of the mystery, and the warmth of the many players. I never put the book down. Thanks and congratulat
