Interesting and unique concept, well worth your time. St. A Boiler I recently had this book recommended to me (I know it is "older") based on my own experience reading Turtledove and actually reading this author. I mentioned that I read Dies the Fire maybe a decade ago and a friend asked if I had read this, I admitted I had never even heard of it even though it was written before. This is one of those that like the Flux Capacitor you don't really ask how or why, you just go with it. The point is not why but what are the im. Alternate History at it's best Alexander Pope This story covers many different areas. Not only do we see a pre-history of England, we get to see politics, industry , and war. It all starts in a deeply impossible event throwing a small New England island back in time to 1250 B.C and then what follows is a believable story detailing how those individuals would service in that "new world". The greatest threat they face is the ambitions of one of their own people.. too much sexual violence - I did not get past too much sexual violence - I did not get past chapter two because of it. returned the audio version. I read/listen mostly in evening to relax before going to sleep so explicit violence is not what I'm looking for in a book. Otherwise the story was interesting.(from the short amount I read)I should have read the amazon reviews more carefully for the heads-up.

When the weather clears, the island's inhabitants find that they are no longer in the late twentieth centurybut have been transported instead to the Bronze Age! Now they must learn to survive with suspicious, warlike peoples they can barely understand and deal with impending disaster, in the shape of a would-be conqueror from their own time.. It's spring on Nantucket and everything is perfectly normal, until a sudden storm blankets the entire island

M. Stirling is the author of numerous novels, both on his own and in collaboration. A former lawyer and an amateur historian, he lives in the Southwest with his wife, Jan. . S

Stirling's (The Ship Avenged, Baen, 1997) imaginative foray into time travel should also please fans of alternate history. A good selection for most sf collections.Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc. . In addition to coping with the day-to-day problems of survival and the trauma of losing all connection with the modern world, the residents of the time-stranded island find their lives complicated by the presence of native tribes across the water. From Library Journal A cosmic disturbance transports the island of Nantucket and its inhabitants over three thousand years back in time to the shores of a Stone Age America
