"A Great Introduction to Databases in General, not just SQL Server" according to ThatJeffSmith. Disclaimer: I personally know the author, Bert Scalzo, and have worked with him at Quest for the past 9 years.When I heard that Bert had written a book on SQL Server, I was ecstatic as I have recently been spending more and more time with the Microsoft database technology. However, I must say that this book is targeted to someone with little to know database experience. So while it is not written for me, it will serve as a great resource for non IT folks or someone who is tasked to get up and running very quickly with SQL Server.I was pleased to see how many pages were dedicated to discuss. "Finally! An SQL book that makes sense!!!" according to Amazon Customer. If you aren't a computer wonk, yet still need to use SQL, this is the book for you. It is the book I wish I had 2 years ago, and I consider myself fortunate to have it now. Unlike most SQL how-tos, this one starts with the basics of what you ought to know, rather than assuming you already know it from your days with Stanford's computer engineering department. It explains all sorts of handy notions like table and tuple -- you know, the things the rest of us call "rows" on a spreadsheet -- in perfectly normal language, and goes on to tell you exactly how to do this stuff.
