Laura said Had my own copy from long ago. Gave as. Had my own copy from long ago. Gave as grad gift to a student of mine as she was asking for resources and info.. Great Book for all therapists. This book provides thorough information that cann be applied to all types of facilities from LTC to acute. I use this book for LTC and found it to be very helpful for patients with diagnoses ranging from contractures to CVA. Works well in conjunction with book entitled "Steps to Follow" by Patricia Davies. Every OTR could benefit from reading and owning this book.. Full of treatment ideas I have found this book useful for working with adults and children with abnormal tone. It has many, many ideas for treatment and good illustrations. It draws from a neurodevelopmental treatment framework. Very useable. Despite the many ideas, it is not a cookbook type presentation. She lays a good foundation for the rational behind her treatment.

The material concentrates on achieving upper extremity function for personal autonomy. Our kinesiology illustrations are intended to help you visualize the position of the muscle and the related skeletal parts. The illustrations alternate the use of small and large bodies, so one can generalize visualizations. The intervention strategies presented reflect a strong neurodevelopmental treatment orientation. Thus, though the book is written by an occupational therapist, physical therapists and speech pathologists will find the information applicable to gait and respiration. However, the analysis of component parts of movement and the review of significant aspects of normal and abnormal development have evolved from the integration of anatomical and kinesiological perspectives. This information can be applied to patients of any age or size. Because the upper extremities work in synchrony with the rest of the body, the text covers significant aspects of whole body movement as well. This book will help you assess and treat patients with neurological impairment resulting in dysfunctional or abnormal muscle tone. As one provides treatment, these visual images will guide the location and direction of touch.
