Outside of the all the naughtiness I expect from Ms. Carpenter, this novel was a terrific sequel to His Wilful Bride. It was so satisfying to get more of Charlotte and Edward, and Lord Danby and Miranda were quite the couple. The historical bits and pieces were just right, especially the descriptions of the austere butler (shades of Mr. Carson from Downtown Abbey?), and the motor car, and of course the amazing estate in which Charlotte and Edward live. Sexy, Fun, Victorian Romance The first book, His Willful Bride, was a great read, and I was anxious to see how the author handled a follow-up. Willful Bride was a tough act to follow. Bringing Miranda, Charlotte's enemy, and Lord Danby, Charlotte's dearest cousin, into the mix and having them become involved was brilliant, and allowed for all kinds of shenanigans. I also thoroughly enjoyed the historical aspect of the motor car. It all worked, and the ending, like the first book, was touching and deeply romantic. I was expecting to really dislike Miranda after what happened in the first book, but Maggie gave the character more depth and emotion so I ended up rooting for her and Walter.
