From the warm waters of the Caribbean and being in command, now Kinkaid finds himself back in the frigid waters and cloudy environs of the North Atlantic; and part of a small fleet of ships where he is just another unknown captain who feels he must measure up to men like John Paul Jones. Also, "Uprising" was written with a warm and breezy dash where the characters reflected the Caribbean itself, sunny, colorful and larger than life. From the Author The mood in "Hazardous Duty" is in stark contrast to "Uprising," the volume that precedes it. . This book is darker, both in atmosphere and character depiction, and presents I believe a truer description of life aboard an 18th century ship of war

"Review" according to J. I have read the other books in this series and enjoyed them very much. Having said that, this was my least favorite. Perhaps this because I felt the other ones each seemed to have more of a purpose within the story than I felt this one did. This one also had quite a few typos in it, especially towards the end. It also seemed to have a few timeline conflicts with the next book. This was still a good read however and I would recommend this series.. Good new series Red It is nice to find a series about the US side of things with so many books about the Royal Navy, which I also love. Winston has good, inventive plots that teach us about little known aspects of the Revolutionary War at sea.. Fun quick read! Amazon Customer Like all Winston's other books in this series, this is a fun light naval adventure. I've grown to genuinely like the characters, and the plot and pacing are solid. It's not O'Brian, but then who is ;-)
