DESCRIPTION:

I call it a good read! I had heard that this book was complex and filled with lots of complex charactersand it's true. However, given that it is the beginning of an epic fantasy series, and given the fact that the reader is just thrown into the middle of things, I thought that the author did a capable job of leading us along story-wise and engaging us with enough hints, clues and character development to not only engage us in the storyline but also begin the process of revealing deeper truths and backstories about a myriad (not just kidding here) of cultures, races, religions, along with connections with several people you really want to know more about!. "This book felt like an amalgamism of the best of fantasy written terribly" according to Amazon Customer. This book felt like an amalgamism of the best of fantasy written terribly. You have characters introduced in the most obscure ways, and then praised for being incredibly powerful right before dying. Literally every single force in the game is portrayed as if they could end all of existence, and then die relatively easily. There was also so many uses of deus ex machine, where the solution to a huge problem would just Happen. Without fanfare, or any particular intelligence on the side of the protagonist. It made the huge plot conclusions feel weak and rushed, in an effort to make powerful chatacters look invincible. Which they might . "Forecasting a classic!" according to Hector Acosta. Steven Erikson's "Gardens of the Moon" offers challenging complexity with character development to stand with top-end classics. Plenty of action and twists garnished with dabs of intelligent humor despite its dark foundation of a world on the cusp of total chaos, held at the brink by opposing but compellingly tragic era-spanning loyalties.A fine read I've recommended to friends who are avowed fans of Gaiman's towering Sandman seriesI believe they will find in this author's work a kindred spirit creating images as remarkable in the mind as those at the high end of those inspired by Neil's Master of Dreams.Hecaka Whistler
