Great introduction to Simple Machines Lesley I really enjoyed using this book with my son. It gives great experiment ideas and wonderful examples of each concept with the addition of examples through history. The only reason I didn't give this a five star rating was the way the author referenced time, instead of BC and AD it was BCE and CE (Before Common Era and Common Era). I don't think this was the forum for such a confusing change to kids that are trying to grasp the concept of eras. I over looked that by reading BC and AD instead of the author's version so if this is a problem for you I would advise reading the book with your child. Other than that very informative . "some of the ideas are easily executed to show how the machines lessen human effort" according to NAncy Anderson. Bright and colorful. some of the ideas are easily executed to show how the machines lessen human effort.. Part 2 of a science unit I bought this book along with two others to create a differentiated instruction science unit on simple machines. What one book did not cover, another one did. Also, the three books were on different instructional levels, allowing for every student's comprehension.

I would use this book with young scientists in my class, and I would also put the materials in a center for young children to explore, make, and do . Illustrated with simple black-and-white cartoons and capped with well-considered lists of print and other resources, this makes a serviceable hands-on guide to the topic."Marla Conn, Educational ConsultantExplore Simple Machines! provides well-organized informational text using important text features and simple, straightforward narrative that will enable students to gain knowledge in this area of study. Written for the student, with inquiry in mind, the explanations are simple and easy to follow, and there is an explanation of what is happening and questions to extend the learning. What Yasuda does extremely well is introduce the abstract physics concepts of gravity, friction and force. This book changed that for me and for my students."Children's Literature Review" Simple Ma
