Of the stories, the worst transgressor in this matter is "Concerns of the Second Sex" by Pavarti K. Tyler. It appears to be set in a dystopian world in which women are controlled by a culture that appears to be a mishmash of the worst of 19th century European thought (no surprise that it is opened by a quotation from Schopenhauer) and traditional upper-class Chinese values of approximately the same period. However, it gives no clue as to either the date of the "when" in which the story occurs or the "how come" of the c. David H. Dixon Jr. said An alternative Alt History. If you read much in this niche genre, you will be familiar with both the idea of large changes springing from small events and the usual scenarios. The charm of this collection is the uniqueness of the various starting points. This lends itself to some very different paths untaken. Highly recommended.. I usually like anthologies because they take me to a variety of Gail B. Leatherwood I usually like anthologies because they take me to a variety of places and viewpoints I wouldn't get in a single story. Almost all of the stories in this one were well written, sometimes intriguing, and sometimes a little difficult to figure out--but those were my problems, not the authors methinks. Overall this was an excellent group and I'll probably be reading other entries.
