"Doesn't work well as a "tutorial"" according to Control_Engr. I'm going to disagree with the other reviews on this text. The book does certain things very well. The proofs of stability and convergence for the various adaptive algorithms are well developed and organized. The authors cover a very broad range of topics, and offer some very in-depth examples at the end of each chapter which show nice applications of the listed techniques. However, as a "tutorial", the text has some serious deficiencies. The notation is.strange. Say. just_me said by far the best book on the subject!. I will just repeat the title: this is by far the best book on the subject of adaptive controlIt is strongly recommemded for all interested readers.. "Adaptive Control Tutorial" according to James. A great text!! A condensed and easy to read version of "Robust adaptive control" (which is now out of print and selling for around $2500 a copy).Great format and easy to read with more than enough detail and plenty of problems to ponder over (though no solutions).A well thought out and concise text.Only criticism - as per usual little consideration given to multivariable control.

His research interests include adaptive control, neural networks, nonlinear systems, vehicle dynamics and control, intelligent transportation systems, and marine transportation. Bar Fidan is a researcher at the Systems Engineering and Complex Systems Program of National ICT Australia and the Research School of Information Sciences and Engineering of the Australian National University in Canberra. He also holds a courtesy appointment with USC s Department of Aerospace and Mechani

Designed to meet the needs of a wide audience without sacrificing mathematical depth and rigor, Adaptive Control Tutorial presents the design, analysis, and application of a wide variety of algorithms that can be used to manage dynamical systems with unknown parameters. Its tutorial-style presentation of the fundamental techniques and algorithms in adaptive control make it suitable as a textbook. The authors achieve these multiple objectives by enriching the book with examples demonstrating the design procedures and basic analysis steps and by detailing their proofs in both an appendix and electronically available supplementary material; online examples are also available.
